Barbarians do have best stats but if you like the look of particular race, pick that one instead.

Dorfs have stats almost as good as barb, and the bonus is if somebody wakes up sleeper, you're already a dorf! You don't need the mask that ONLY drops in pre-awoken sleeper's tomb.
Or go human, since the human illusion item from luclin will never drop here.
