There are four different armor graphics in classic EverQuest: Leather, Chain, Plate, and Robes. The Robes have various different styles and colors, but generally, armor type dictates how your character is going to look. For a Druid, there are some options, such as a Brown Chitin Protector (Plate Graphic).
But yes, you are pretty much stuck with Leather graphics until you reach a higher level and/or can afford to purchase things with off-type graphics such as the Brown Chitin Protector or the Kunark class armor (which all looks like plate).
The other option is just waiting until you can get Velious Class Armor, which have unique graphics separate from the Classic armor types.
