Good story. Reminds me a little of this story.
Recently, I left my home zone to go on a quest that should have been simple. I was to retrieve several beverages and return with them. Seemed simple enough, eh?
As I headed towards my destination, I noticed that there were a bunch of others camped outside the area I needed to visit. When I asked one of them, they informed me that the vendor was broken and I should seek another one elsewhere. Also, that they had been waiting for almost an hour. Waiting... for... an hour.... for 1 simple quest. I contemplated the choices but quickly decided to leave them to waiting while I ventured onward.
So onward I ventured to another location; as compared to staring at a wall, waiting for unknown amounts of time. When I arrived at the new location, I was accosted by several nomads and gypsy that attempted to sell me their trinkets and other assorted costume jewelry. I ducked around the corner quickly and hid behind the largest obstacle I could find. Little did I know the obstacle was a dumpster and it smelled of rotten mutton and other discarded refuse. Thankfully my stamina is decent enough to not expel the pickled wyvern I had ingested earlier from the vile odor.
Quickly, I dashed into the next destination and feverishly scoured the shelves for the quest items. It was then that I noticed that the clerk here was watching me as if I was a thief in disguise. Not understanding why I was feeling these dreadful feelings, I addressed the shop clerk about her scrutinizing of my actions & assured her that my intent was only for the quest items I sought after. She glared as if not believing me and my quest. What could I do? Would this clerk up-charge me or even sell to me? Am I about to be waylayed by her henchmen ? An uneasy feeling washed over me and I left the shop without my quest items. One day I'll work that faction.
At the third shop, I noticed a long line of others forming. Were they here for their quest items also? What if they were out of the quest items I quested for? Was this all a plot to hoard these quest items? I needed to get to the bottom of this right away and answer these questions.
Once inside, I noticed the line went out the door and down the road. The shop keeper told me to wait in line like the rest. I guffawed and said that I was only here for a few quest items and I would be paying with coins from the land. The stern and odd look changed to a half grin on the shop keeper. I guess money makes this guy happy. I quickly made my way to the proper area of the shop, retrieved my few quest items and rushed for the shop keeper to complete my transaction. Several ugly looks were pasted on faces around me. It was as if they felt I was undeserving and rude to be able to complete my transaction first. Others were waiting and I could not help but feel a sense of entitlement as I finished my purchasing, while others still waited in the very, long line.
When I finally returned to the safety of my home lands; I was informed by the queen that I needed to retrieve more quest items. Apparently, my questing days are not over.....
