What about the massive increase of children who will grow up with a single unemployed mother? Yeah, they are her responsibility, but declaring it isn't going to make her (or their father) any more responsible. Curious what the solution is there. Of course we can keep them alive through charity or public assistance, but that only subsidizes the impoverished condition.

Economics?
But first I'll say, you know my position on this whole thing, just that it's sent to the states to decide. This is one reason I was hopeful for Rand in the beginning, and now maybe for a future run by him. I like the conservative-libertarian mix, seems to be a good approach to many things where the feds should not be involved in.
Anyway, though I was sort of tongue in cheek about balances to Poke, this matter really is more in line of adjustments to the big picture. I mean if you just remove A, but leaving B and C unmodified as part of the old system, then A doesn't work. So we need to look more at the big picture, the whole machine, and make adjustments that would be acceptable.
In a way, we already do this. But we do this with education, and especially with educating people that are not even suppose to be here in this country. I'm sorry, but I put the lives of Citizens and that of even legal immigrants yet to become citizens, over the lives of people that are here which are not suppose to be. I wish we really could help the world, but realistically we cannot, not in this way.
The money not going to planned parenthood, the money not going to illegal aliens, well by far would be better spent going towards the lives of children who would otherwise be aborted for economic reasons in such cases. Of course then you know that there are organizations that will help, even community services run by non-govt volunteers as non-profits. And then there is adoption. I have a friend that has 8 kids he adopted, he and his wife, and they are all as happy as can be.
Big picture stuff doesn't stop there, I mean look at what a failure 0bamacare was. If Trump doesn't dump it, it'll collapse on its own, everyone knows this, right? All that has done is drive up prices, making it even harder for everyone. I mean in many respects, such a healthcare system is the crowning jewel of socialism. But the track record of socialism isn't good at all, and this was expected ... if not
purposely so - but beyond the intention of this reply, I digress.
But I'm not against welfare, within reason. Historically though, this was more a job for families and communities to help with. And they still are there too. But sometimes people get set on doing their own thing the way they want to, and don't seek out all the different avenues available. Pride? I don't know. Because everybody else is doing it? All different reasons or excuses, it depends on the person and the situation, but there is always a better approach compared to that alternative.
And then of course there is the matter you bring up specifically, because it's not all just single mothers. But the matter of single mothers, that's a whole additional issue. It's a serious cultural problem. I mean unmarried or divorced, it's become just too acceptable, too easy, which isn't good for Western civilization at all. I mean really it's the first bad choice that can be made. The me-me lifestyle, in denial of consequences. Self-control would be a really good start, even starting with baby-steps at this point, just learning how to do it and get better at it. And I mean too easy as in getting oneself into that position. Once in such a position, well let compassion reign. But because there could be a safety net, recklessness shouldn't be embraced.
A nation in need of healing, out of a very sickly state. Just turn on the TV for a few hours, the news, the reality shows, many tv series and movies, it just goes more over the top every year. Then we accept it as the norm and do what we do since birth, we begin to mimic it. That neat mimic nature in babies, that never really leaves us even into adulthood. So what we take in, naturally we begin to mimic in part or in full, in time. It changes our thinking, our reactions, our whole expression on life.
So it's not just single mothers that suffer, our whole civilization is really in need of relief. A willingness needed to help and be helped, and many do help. A decrease in the stresses of the day to day life. So much pressure mounting, and these political prophets of doom making everything worse (e.g "Trump is the end of the world." etc.).
