i got a 93 hardtop 300zx with custom interior/sound/body etc and i love these cars but..
fuckin pain in the ass on maintenance and they honestly drive like shit. pretty much only for looking nice and straight line driving. got the e46 coupe too and it drives much nicer, steering doesnt feel like shit in it and much better visibility

ive come close to pulling the trigger on a few 300zx's, they're really good looking cars, but the maintenance nightmares are enough to steer me clear. and i live in a no-rust state i couldn't imagine having to deal with welding and paint on top of everything. i've seen enough build threads to know what a typical 300zx resto involves. would love to have one but if i was gonna buy a nightmare project car of that era i'd probably go with a 944.
e46 have a real good feel stock. along with the 1 series, they're the best of the "new" style bmw coupes. friend has an f30 and e46, outside of the newer gen turbos the e46 is all around a better experience. but ill admit bmw's newer turbos are amazing, coming from someone who hates the feel of turbo'd cars, spools so well you can't even tell it's there.
on paper and for real world driving the e46 is superior to the e30 in almost every way because of the IRS, smoother motor & noticeable low end torque boost. but the e30 is a better car for having fun because the trailing arm suspension is slidey+fun and factory LSD. also the stock e30 steering is 4 turns to lock and sucks dick, but swap in a $150 z3 rack and it has the best mechanical steering feel you'll find on any car.
