Get your spells first, they're cheap to begin with, but when you get to levels 9 and 14, they start to get expensive, so try to make sure that you have plat for them first.
Sharkbone Warhammer is a good cleric 1hb that can be had for 50pp, I'd get one of those after you think you have enough plat for the next set of spells.
A set of banded armor will cost 90pp, but a set of leather from a merchant can be had for about 25pp and would probably suffice until you get to around level 20 as long as you don't get hit too much and by then you'll have a better idea of what's available to you in terms of things you can save for and things you can get on your own.
Early levels, +Mana and +HP items are going to help you more than +Wis items. A Chipped Bone Collar can be had for 10pp, it's +10 hp/mana. Golden Jaded Bracelet is +15 mana/hp and about 30pp. There's other cheap +hp/mana gear to be had, just keep your eyes peeled for it. +Wis gear doesn't really become desirable over +mana/hp until around level 30 or so when it starts giving more mana per point.
