idk I hear you but I cant help but think Iraq was a family thing and wouldn't have happened 2.0 with a different president, so to some extent you are right but are you 100% right? I dont know.
think it allll the way through, humans tend to think in human terms, 5-10 years really is all an average human is thinking about.

countries/multinationals have the money to think on every level, with projections and everything. Some people say Walmart has more intelligence/raw computing power/data at its disposal than the CIA (not including the NSA)

Iraq has always been a strategic point, people always point to the oil but its not the oil. if you look at the green zone of IRAQ,bagdad you can clearly see what its being set up as for the future. if you overlay a massive transit/shipping hub in china with what is we call the "Green zone" in iraq. it is clearly not a diplomatic stronghold lol.

the future is lithium, and right next door to iraq is iran, someone the US is laying groundwork to have a very long and prospherous relationship as we start to pivot away from saudi arabia as the oil runs out. (take note next to iran is next toAfGANISTAN, where we have been long before the iraq war.

the simple truth is, Iraq will be the hub of the 22nd century raw lithium transport center. also other rare earth resources (china controls 98% of the rare earth last time i checked, it puts us in such a serious national security breach that darpa had to come up with its own way to source and build mission critical electronics/boards for our own military.

the battle of the 22nd century is not going to be over oil, its going to be battery components.
