I too am not 100% in what context this is being used, but Urban Dictionary tells me that being "woke" is essentially being aware of social issues often related to racism - people who are 'woke' are no longer asleep to the struggles of others.
However an additional definition shows it as someone who thinks they are cool when in reality they are not really cool and probably have few friends - yet they think they are the sh!t still
