Some people just like the Mechanics and Gameplay of EQ, and want that gameplay to get more intricate and be provided with more challenging content. Thus, Luclin.
Adding in AAs adds depth to all classes. Making mastering their play take a bit more with each activated ability they add.
New Raid Content is more challenging. Any old noob can run a CH chain and slow a boss and walk away with autoattack on for 3 minutes. Scripted events with adds, different phases, and requirements requires actual strategy. The closest P99 comes is the Ring 10 war.
Focus effects makes gearing actually interesting on a caster. The difference between a random HoTesting geared cleric and a BiS cleric is like 800 mana. Or 2 CH casts... Really not all that exciting.
Tradeskills actually have a purpose in Luclin so if those are your cup of tea you can actually profit off them.
It just expanded areas of the game that didn't have much depth before and made more challenging those which were starting to get stale.
Got on Phinigel last night myself, killed like 20 blue-white cons, got about 8% of a level at level 6. That solo EXP, so bad!
