Also, if people enjoy playing on the server I don't consider it wasting time. Hobbies are harmless fun as long as they don't wreck your career and social life. I just don't see how anyone can really enjoy staring at the wall for hours and hours waiting for pixel dragons to spawn. It boggles my mind.

I agree entirely, if you enjoy it, please play. It's just sad that a very small minority of people that enjoy butt fucking each other for up to 16 hours to race for the "rights" to a mob can hold the rest of a server of friendly old fucks that just want a place to, in their limited free time, enjoy some content from a game they played back in '99.
This message goes to all that participate in this insanity referred to as a "raid scene". To all those who have the need to dick measure each other over the Internet to feel, for even just the smallest fraction of time, important. To all those that line up at a "starting line" on a "classic" server and think you are your guild's rock stars, when all you are is taken advantage of while your life fades to black from alcoholism and sleep depravation.
