Medical Insurance is cheap and most, if not all, jobs include you on their insurance too. Plus Thailand has free medical care for most stuff anyway. Not sure how it applies to foreign tax payers, though. It probably doesn't.
I've had a few minor injuries taken care of in hospital and never had to pay anything. Nothing too serious, though. I had some stitches in my face for flying headfirst into the side of a pick-up truck. A few broken fingers from various crashes.
Friend of mine had surgery on his hand three times. Had to have pins and shit, was pretty grim. Think he only paid the equiv of 200usd.
