it's not just that, maskedmelon. there was the fry bread crusade. you don't mind that because you were convinced by it. baler doesn't mind that because he was convinced by that too.

but there was a time for years where every.single.thread he posted was "try red" in some way. I distinctly remember some video he posted where it was a big ol advertisement for red, even said on top "this is why people play red!!" or some bullshit, and then he disingenuously claimed he wasn't trying to advertise for red - to the point that he *deleted that caption on the video* after he got called out on it.

he has a history of trying to elude responsibility for his actions, deny that they occurred, and then flip things by being his "detractors" unfairly accusing him, while he only had the best interests of the server all along - a tactic shared by baler's defense efforts here.

if he was really interested in helping the little guy, he'd do that instead of trying to push his hobby horses.

his advice is also generally terrible, and was all the more so because he spent a lot of time giving advice about blue while not playing on it, but that's more or less besides the point.

in the end, someone who takes every opportunity to push their agenda is no better than a paid pop up advertisement, and equally annoying. I use ignore, but the damage he does to threads by people who respond to him remains.
I understand there are some (perhaps) people who were rubbed wrong by the try red campaign, but I don't think it wasn't some malicious thing. He found something special there and wanted to share it. I know this, because so did I thanks to him! With the negative image red had from a "colorful" community and questionable implementation.

Most people didnt care to give it a go. They had opinions they didn't care to question and just wanted to be left alone. I heartily sympathize with the latter! I tend to just skim past stuff I don't want to read, but am generally not significantly bothered by much so have it easy I guess in that regard ^^ and I ended up giving it a go and had fun. For everyone else there is always a big shiny ignore button.

Swish undeniably knew many people were annoyed simply by the reception his advertisements generally received, but he pushed on because he wanted others to be able to enjoy the same experience he'd stumbled upon. I could be wrong of course and it could all have been some self-serving delusion as you suggest, but I don't see it that way ^^
