The platform sets the stage for all elections throughout federal and state legislatures. The idea is to capitalize on this Trump thing and rack up as many House and Senate seats as possible, since with him leading their ticket, states like Arizona, Georgia, Missouri, etc, will be up for play when they haven't before.
The platforms are free to view, and it offers clear policy recommendations and plans, which is very different than the alternative being offered. The GOP platform doesn't even mention any of the issues galvanizing the Trump base, because they're not serious about building a wall around Mexico or banning a religious group from entering the country (first amendment lol), and most of those guys don't read/care they're in it for the lols.
What should Bernie have done? Let his ego get completely out of control and cry about losing? Lol. That would be a Trump thing to do. He lost the election to a slightly less progressive candidate.
Seriously, Bernie endorsing Hillary is so much less selling out than Trump taking money from Super Pacs after promising not to. Nobody cares though. The people slandering Sanders aren't voters who are on the fence in any way, they've made up their mind already.
