It seems that OP beat you to Hadden because they had the timer. Since OP acquired the earring because they had the timer, Eivy should use OP's kill to start his or her own timer. This gives Eivy the same opportunity that led to OP's success.
Rules exist for a reason, and that reason is that "nice" is subjective, as evidenced here over and over again. It seems like "lawyer-questing" is a way to trivialize the utility of rules. Rules are useful.
