Really it just depends on what you want to do and what your playstyle is. If you want to group a lot, wizard might not be for you - getting groups is by no means impossible, but you'll have to work for it when other classes might get sent unsolicited invitations. If you want to raid a lot, you'll be in better shape - Wizards perform much better in that area, and in fact are required for Plane of Fear and Plane of Sky raids (in order to port there).

As for leveling, if you don't mind soloing and leveling slowly for the first 29-34 levels, wizards are wonderful for leveling while 90% afk. Nuke a mob from 100% to dead in 30 seconds or less, then go watch Netflix/read/work on homework etc for 6-10 minutes while you get mana back. Camps with single mobs on 6 minute timers (check out the 6-minute bard diet guide) or two mobs on 15ish minute timers are perfect for this.
