For an fps? Nah I'd get a trackball. You can have both a mouse and trackball on the system at the same time. I use a pc playstation controller when I need a game controller, but not so great for fps games. You lose accuracy, but retain the long-term comfort as you would get with a trackball. Yet trackball has both comfort and accuracy for fps gaming. Mouse can be a little more accuate in the short-run, but for long periods of gaming you don't get the fatigue which means accracy doesn't degrade and imo even improves with the trackball.
It's really only poor if you have bad finger control. I shred guitars and type 60wpm, so I find the trackball a deadly instrument on the virtual battlefield.
New Vegas is a solid game, any of the bethesda classics are.
