Soccer is in their culture and revenue comes from all over the world, not only their economy. The US culture isn't interested in soccer. It is the same reason the US isn't good at cricket or rugby. A country can only dominate so many sports and our culture chooses football, basketball and baseball over all others.

It isn't reasonable to think a significant % of the US population will apply themselves to a sport no one else cares about, dedicating their lives to a sport no one comes and watches or supports, with the end goal of moving abroad even though they could make more money doing that. Our society lacks the support, competition or infrastructure for soccer because there isn't enough interest.
