Generally speaking, faster weapons are better for this. Slow weapons make you cry when they miss. Landing a hit 30% of the time, you'd almost always be better off with a 6/17 over a 12/34...as an example.

On the flip side, slow weapons mean less damageshield/riposte damage and easier to cast spells between swings without sacrificing melee dps.
