My favorite story about anime:
Many years ago, studio ghibli began work on its first film, Naussica. Towards the end of production, they were over budget and looking at shutting down the whole film due to lack of funding.
So they put an ad out in an animation newsletter "help finish this film!".
The next week a 18 year old kid shows up, who had never animated before. He is a talented artist and the staff brings him in and he begins work right away.
One weekend he stays late and animates a sequence with his own direction. This is that sequence:

It was the first time anyone had animated a lazer hitting an object, pausing for a beat, and then the object explods & the crew loved it. It was left in the film and became a trope in anime used to this day.
That 18 year old animator was
Hideaki Anno the creator of Evangelion. A legend.
I always liked that story
