Gnome magician - This is a very pet focused class. Your main strength is that you get powerful pets that are both your offense and defense. This is a good solo class. The summoned items are nice, but not game breaking.

Shamans are one of the stronger classes on EQ, most especially at high levels. At max level they are arguably the best soloers. You are the king of buffs and debuffs, you can heal half decently, and you have some decent lines of damage over time spells. My alt is a shaman and I have solo'd him up to level 50 so far.

Clerics are perhaps the worst solo class in EQ. You will be highly dependent on finding groups to level after a certain point. You can do some soloing against undead, but it is limited. Good news is clerics are highly sought after. Everybody needs more clerics, always. But you won't be doing much meleeing once you get above a certain level, so your vision of battle cleric is out.

Paladins are tanks. Groups always need tanks too. Warriors are considered "better" at max level because of their disciplines, but paladins have their place. They can get agro much faster and more reliably and have some spells and LoH.

Druid shapeshifting is not a major part of their gameplay. The will mostly charm animals to do their damage, or snare kite a mob while their dots kill it. Very outdoorsy character. They are the worst healers of the three healing classes. They are one of two characters that get port spells at higher levels, so you will be an EQ taxicab if you want to be.

Play what sounds fun, you can always reroll another character after a few levels if it doesn't really feel right.

Welcome!
