LOL. I got a little bored of p1999 a while back. Nothing in particular. I get bored of every MMO i play for a month or two at most. I've played p1999/peq/entropiauniverse/ddo/old single-player rpgs/etc off and on for more than a year. And now I"m getting interested in Minecraft. I just mentioned it in another post. Funny you should mention it here because I was just thinking about it a second ago.
No this is not an advertisement for minecraft. I just came over to these forums from reading the forums over on eqplayers. I was reading about fippy and thot i'd come here to see what everyone has to say about it. I suspect that this server will both lose and gain players from this sequence of events. Once kunark releases and the world grows by ample amounts I think that'll pull a lot of people back that have grown tired of the small feeling of the current world, especially at 50. I understand where they're coming from but that's not the reason I'm not playing. I have a million reasons why I get bored of mmorpgs after a month or so.
Not surprising that I get bored with games. I've played eq1 off and on for way too long and I get bored too easy with things. In this game I just get bored of doing and seeing similar thigns. In DDO I got bored of being rushed by groups to do things in a way that wasn't fun. In fact, in DDO, I kinda liked soloing because the content really grabbed me, but the same effect was absent in groups. In Entropia I got bored of sweating for defense skill. In peq I got bored of pushing my system to its limits to box and do content i've alreayd done a million tiimes. And the old games I play I've played before. Minecraft looks just right to me, it's something new!
But p1999, it's awesome. I can't imagine how it's for someone that has never seen it b4. I suspect some people will get turned off by the grindy nature of it, but you know, some people don't like quest chains and fast leveling and overbloated interfaces and overuse of instances. I'm exaggerating somewhat, as even I have played games with instances and quest-chains, but I can admit here straight out that I hate quest-driven games (one example is planescape: torment) and this seems to be a common thing in many current mmorpgs. I like to do what I want to do. I like to make my own goals and be different. I hate being herded. There'll always be someone interested in a game like this so long as it's mostly new to them. p1999 isn't perfect by a long shot - that's partly why i get bored of it because it's lacking - but offers something only p1999 can claim.
