Cleric/chanter/chanter is the best trio for leveling. Probably not the funnest though.
shaman/chanter/monk seems like a waste of a third spot imo. You got to heal monk and it cant gate out of places.
You should pick either a melee dps trio or a pet based trio. A great melee trio is shaman/monk/rogue. Another good one is shaman/chanter + monk/rogue + hybrid.
If you go pet based, pick chanter plus any two of: mage, necro, shaman/druid. Druids cant summon pets (nwb is garbage) but they can charm animals and mix well with any magic class that is not a shaman. Plus they get transportation spells.
I dont know why anyone would consider a wiz for a trio. Porting opens a lot of content up to you but the druid can port plus sow, harmony, tracking, and other support skills.
If your friend is going to get his son playing and they live in the same house make sure to go ahead and request an IP exemption because it takes a while to get.
