To own and especially to carry a firearm you should be forced to go through mental screening and also safety training classes first. I remember going to the range with a friend of mine and watching a guy probably in his late teens or early 20s trying to be cute and holding the handgun sideways trying to hit the target. He thought it was funny to attempt to show off for his friend. It made me fearful to think this moron might actually be able to carry a gun legally. seriously, the libs need to shut their fat fucking mouths up for a minute about taking away a gun that is virtually never used in a crime (AR-15 and other "assault" rifles) and pass some meaningful cash-money incentives to increase the safety of legal gun ownership.
The Fed can't dictate states requirements for a permit, sorry Seltius. Fact. But what they can do is offer hundreds of millions in "training money" and federal grants if the State "complies" with the requirements of the funding bill-- which will outline what we talked about here, i.e. common sense reform on the permit side of things.
^ the above scenario is similar to the war on drugs model. Departments won't war on drugs as seriously if the Fed didn't offer money to the department with requirements to "unlock" the money. Ok I'll stop here I'm making too many people smart.
