Truly the main issue we face is over population. If you think about it, OP is the largest contributor to suffering in this world. Automation amplifies suffering, because fewer people are required to do the same tasks as before, yet we never stop creating new people. So what do they do?
We are hundreds if not thousands of years from unifying as a species, like some star trek type society. Someday though we will have to in order to reach the stars for real. Sadly though, even in that sort of world, there will be the down trodden because we can't stop breeding and someone has to clean the shit.

Then we should be able to recognize the merit and value in people, clean the shit, and not worry overmuch about the logistical and technological aspects. I guess I had this battle and I've picked my side in my head.
I'm ok with that. I know where my bounderies lay and I don't want to be on the losing side forever. In fact I'm really close to turning the gears of civilization in my favor, liberty is just a few minutes away for me. And in legal and ethical big picture sense. Part of that was going to school and developing a skill I am fond of that is not easily automated.
Another part of that is getting society to respect me for who I am.
The last part of that is taking advantage (Yes TAKING ADVANAGE) of whatever resources are available for me to start becoming productive in this great society we have. That includes all kinds of things like VA benifits (earned) SSI, being hauled away years ago in an ambulance after being suicidal. Etc...
I like to argue a lot it's better to give people a bit of breathing room than simply put your boot down on their neck and watch them squirm for a 2cnd ferrari.
