Government jobs are pork. You get the pork by knowing people. I recommend getting involved in state/municipal politics if you want a lot of it, and plz don't blame race until u try that out.

I have anecdotes, too. A friend of mine was flat out told that he was getting a slot in grad school because he was black. There were several others (including myself) who had a higher GPA. He didn't like that, btw, and is a conservative.
Another anecdote, fill out any form for a federal government job and you will be given points for being a minority which automatically put you ahead of the white person with equal experience.
One more anecdote, the HR department of the company I work for was clear to me, as a hiring manager, that I had to help them meet their EEO quotas for hiring minorities even if it meant not hiring whites who are more qualified for a position.
My experiences are different than those who claim "white privilege."
