I don't know how this 'Enchanters are terrible in Velious' meme got started, but its just silly IMO.
Its not like Enchanters weren't buff bots in Kunark. VP had 0 charmable mobs, the outdoor dragons dispelled and feared, and no one had time to clear down to Trakanon with a platoon of krup knights. There were a few exceptions, most notably the horses in Sky, but they were few and far between. Enchanters are arguably actually better on Velious raids because so many raid targets are slowable and/or come with massive Druid buffs. Tash and 4 slot dispell are both awesome there.
And its not as though Enchanters are suddenly bad at farming the group zones. You can charm in Sirens, Kael, DN, and POM, and in all cases the charmed pets tear up. Drakkel Dire Wolves Kael are worth like 2 rogues each! Add in the usual buffs and debuffs and pretty much any good 3-4 man group will include an enchanter.
So what's changed? I think two things. First, Enchanters can't really SOLO much Velious content like they could in HS/Seb. Velious is just too high level; you can't calm/charm/ae mez L55+ stuff. So you need to actually, you know, make friends with Shamans, Monks, Clerics, etc. Second, Velious is melee candyland. Most of the hardcore players in raid guilds are doing it to gear out a monk/warrior/rogue. Caster itemization in Classic EQ is just shit. It wasn't until Luclin with focus effects that raid gear really started to make a difference. And being the only enchanter on a raid really sucks, because you get totally overwhelmed with buff requests.
TLDR: Enchanters rock Velious just fine if you aren't intent on facerolling your keyboard.
