Brights don't exactly get less retarded as time goes on either. At low brackets, you can do unhealable damage. You can also spell-slow casters 50% starting at level 8 or so. Then as you level, you get way better AE (rain of fire and BW's M2 break the warband game), shit like detonate, and a 100 yard mortal strike.
Played a few games with Shody, Trades, and Kringe yesterday.
For those just starting, you level entirely through PvP.
There are repeatable kill enemy player quests in EVERY RvR zone. So, if you want to fly between games, you can get 6 repeatable quests (3x kill 10 players, 3x kill 25 players) that will fill your bags with gold and your character with exp.
