There is a principal outlined in the book of five rings called "pushing down the pillow". When you suffocate someone with a pillow, you keep pushing it down over their face until they are dead. This is metaphorical of course. When attacking, once you find an opening and push your opponent back onto their heels, you do not relent. Do not give them time to recover. Only focus on your opponent's death.
