Yeah, makes a big difference, interaction. Take for instance the regular servers after a time, where vets needed nothing from newbies, but if you were a vet that wandered into a newbie starting area and you had tracking, the newbies would constantly beg you for help to find mob drops for their magic newbie quest armor. Then you wind up having nothing to do with low/mid level armor drops, became simply vendor trash.
You find a true newbie on even just blue now the way it is, and drop a set of splitpaw on them, their speechless. But then the interaction is even better when both vet and newbie have needs that the other can fulfill. Classic mmo's, ...what ever happened to them?
