Arab countries hate the US because of invasions, political manipulation, drone strikes and air strikes.
Islam hates people who aren't Muslim, if you take it literally.
I believe the guy who wrote that article is just misunderstanding the situation and makes a silly argument. I don't believe ISIS care if we change ourselves one way or the other.
I think ISIS wants to scare people into not wanting to fight them, but once they are powerful and nuclear powers the global jihad will start up again regardless.
Sticking your head in the sand and saying do nothing and tolerate everything will just kick the can down the road, I don't really know if it will be solvable without a large confrontation at some point.
