Heard an interesting exchange with a moderate Muslim leader yesterday. He was ver polite and unequivocally sought to distance himself and his religion from terrorism. In every regard he seemed to be a good American citizen. He expressed the importance of loving one's country, serving one's country and expressing tolerance towards one another.

Not surprisingly, he supports sharia law. It is an integral part of Islamic tradition. He insists it has no place in non-majority Muslim nations, but should be applied as the prophet intended.

This is the crux of the problem. Words can be interpreted in a variety of ways, especially those written hundreds of years ago. It's not so bad if the original message was infact peaceful. You will have power hungry men seek to infiltrate the organization for their own gain, but when the original message is peaceful the words can only be twisted so far.

When the message originates with hate, then it can still be interpreted or construed benevolently as this gentleman has done, but it is far simpler to accept at face value, giving rise to the problems the world faces with Islam.

The text is corrupt. As an organism, Islam boasts a far more robust defense than any other religion. Sharia proscribes death for apostasy, so their is no abandoning the faith. Sharia does allow exemption for non-Muslims, if requisite fines/taxes are satisfied, funneling wealth from non-adherents to the church.

When even the most upstanding of Muslims support Sharia, cultures who embrace Islam embrace their demise.
