I can say how laughable claiming the Rio Grande is a barrier is, I have seen it with my own eyes my family has a ranch directly on the border as far south as you can get, and the river is barely above-ground and extremely narrow in certain areas. You can nearly walk across some parts. These areas where the river is underground have a lot of cliffs, but they looked like you could scale them. I joked once that the main house will fall into the Rio some day, as its sitting on one of these cliffs immediately above the Rio.

Border patrol forces private property to maintain and develop fences, under threat of being sued by the Fed. If border patrol chased someone through the fence (they regularly ram their cars through as part of the job), they would call to say there is a hole in the fence, "fix it bitch". click. Its like yeah thanks for creating a criminal and civil liability for us. Don't know the legal obligation, just know its not worth arguing over and its expected that you maintain a shitty 8 foot chain link fence in some areas.

And yeah they shouldn't be in business. Illegal labor forces working class citizens to accept lower wages.
