I think the real problem with discussions like these is that many people do not actually understand what racism is. It is the belief in superiority in one race (usually one's own) over another (or others).
Acknowledging that per capita, blacks commit more crime than whites in America is not racist.
A racist person would argue the reason for such disparity is due to the general inferiority of the offending race.
A reasoned person would argue cultural elements including single-parenting, poverty, low academic regard and contempt for authority as contributors.
An ostrich will bury its head in the sand and refuse to discuss the issue.
A politician will foist the responsibility to another party in an attempt to unite, gain favor with or otherwise manipulate the first.
