Big thing I see now is VMware and storage but unless you're some kind of genius or you have lots of years of IT experience there's no way you are going to land a real job doing any of these things. If you want to go to school or pass an exam to make money I suggest another field.

VMWare and storage are certainly good fields to get into, but there is a lot of push to move to hosted services even for larger companies at this point. You don't even need a guy on staff that knows EMC for example, if you're just purchasing storage from Azure or AWS. There is also a push among cloud providers to provide hosted application services rather than just selling you a virtual machine. You don't need a virtualization guy if you're just paying a monthly fee for an SQL instance in the cloud, for example.
You know what person you need no matter if you're using the cloud or on premise, or if you virtualize or don't? A core network person. Everything still has to connect.
