I would vote cleric as well. Easy class, and you don't have to worry about research, basically all your spells up to 50 are sold from vendors. You can solo with a cleric, but its not fast and you should prefer undead targets. You should not have a lot of problems finding a group. Up until the 30ties clerics healing abilities are about the same as the other priests, but then suddenly people will start to need a cleric in a group. That's the same time when druids start to have problems finding a group.

For me research is one of the pro's. As i'm also a new player , i found my self quickly out of cash when buying spells. From 16 on all the spells i could make with research i did instead of buying them. Saved me quite some pp
