People who cling to the conspiracy theory du jour do so because they are dissatisfied with their own lives. They are looking for a scapegoat -- anyone to blame for their own shortcomings. For some people, it is easier to accept a never-ending carousel of boogeymen than it is to look in the mirror and admit inadequacy.
