When I said it was the smarter move, I meant in terms of his shelling out plat vs. what he could earn through his own means. I completely agree that encouraging newer players to get their belts and pads and get their starting money and having fun doing it is the RIGHT thing - hence my saying 'it was a shitty thing to do'.
Perhaps it would be a lot less of an issue if higher level players would stop busting out the big wallets in Gfay with shouts of "4pp / belt and 8pp / pad" that happens periodically. From the perspective of players that can no longer level in CB, it IS turning it into a cash farm camp. Sort of like how we see players in their mid 20's going Anon or Roleplay in Lfay with the sister camp farming bronze at zero Exp while waiting for a group in Mistmoore. It's sickening.

You bring up an interesting point, and I feel like we all face this at one point or another.
Do I grind exp? Or do I grind plat? There are times when we can do both, but there's also times when we don't get that benefit.
For some classes (melee) grinding up plat can yield more improvements to your character via gear upgrades than levels will provide, and vice versa for casters.
Outside of those choices, and what this post is pointing towards, we are often faced with the decisions on how we treat others while pursuing plat or levels, right? And this is where things can get tough, but I'd suggest a third object we can "grind." That's our reputations on this server.
In the crushbone scenario, I bet the best outcome could have been the higher level Xaiterlyn offering to help out the lowbies retake their camp. Sit with them a bit and share some light banter or chit chat about whatever everyone can find in common. Give them some buffs, establish some rapport, and maybe offer to buy a few of the belts/pads off the lowbies so they have some walking-around money.
It's like you can opt to take the higher road or w/e, but I still think we can view this as earning reputation with each other.
The majority of conversations I see on this game point in two directions: 1) Plat or 2) Get to 60. Not many voices out there championing the idea of community, and pursuing an adventure instead of money or power.
