The reality is its been a part of at least two major long standing cultural groups, who brought this lifestyle to the Colonies after the Revolution. The original 13 colonies were inhabited by solely by Puritans aka Anglo-Saxon immigrants aka no pedos allowed.
Its a Mediterranean/Greek/Semitic/Arabic cultural thing.
Read how people lived under Judaism and how in Semitic cultures this was just regular every day life. Not as much anymore in 2015, but in Semitic history long ago they were just as openly accepting of this behavior as the Afghans. The Jewish Pharisees widely practiced and accepted it, especially among elites. Not to single them out, as the ancient greeks had a pedo system very similar around the same time period.
