Agreed! I've been traveling for work more in the last 8 years than I ever did before that. My busiest was 1 - 2 weeks a month, but its wound down now and im usually only 1 week per quarter now.

Being away from the fam aside, I get very tired of eating out when I travel, all the food starts to taste the same - no matter how good it is (and we get a pretty awesome food allowance but even then, it gets old). I usually make a grocery store run now instead of eating out for every meal, which helps alot.
Worst traveling job I worked was with General Dynamics. It wasn't the job specifically it was there management behind the travel reimbursement. They flat out would pay me almost 1 month after each travel assignment. It was very annoying.

I at least got a corporate card, but was responsible for the entire bill until they ran the paperwork. Again, it wasn't corporate, it was the local management that failed at their jobs.

Just like what you said, all food ends up tasting the same unless you start doing grocery shopping. Since I was usually on assignment for 2+ weeks at a time, on the weekends I would look up local attractions and take advantage of being in the area.

One example is in Colorado Springs there is a zoo on the side of a mountain. As far as I know, that is the only zoo on a mountain in the US. I also wanted to go see the old NORAD site, but didn't get around to it. I hear they do tours.

Anyway, traveling is worth it for 1 reason, money. As long as you are getting paid a decent amount, that's the end game.
