Grouping can be fun but the xp is terrible and it's always a lot of work to coordinate those people. Someone has to do that work. And then groups insta-die when the cleric or tank has to quit. As soon as the cleric or tank says "30 min warning" 2-3 other people give their notice too. They might enjoy the big group feel but they can also read the xp bar and understand that groups are bad xp.
The other thing is that when I'm playing my wizard I feel bad for my group because my dps is so crappy. If I were a twinked rogue or monk we might be getting OK xp. But because I suck at sustained dps I can feel the group's languid pace.
If I'm going to group I want to feel useful to my group, not like the last pick on the dodgeball team.
Soloing is much faster xp, much better money, much more freedom, much more variety (can go off the beaten trail), much more afkable, and it's usually less work too.
