I'm not going for any comprehensive treatment here, just a few points I've found to be important:

(MANNA CONSERVATION)

Four classes can ignore this, but for those of us with a manna pool you have to think of your manna out of combat as well as in. While traveling or returning to a city from a camp/group try to find a quiet spot to med to full.

We don't have all the time in the world to play and it may feel like a waste sometimes when you're just a zone over from where you want to be, but being 90%+ as often as you can manage will be the difference between surviving or dying.

Been plenty of situations where I decided to mow down a pair of Sand Giants in Oasis only to get wrecked by someone porting into Wiz Spires or leaving EC Tunnel in North Ro because is was running at 20% manna.

(CANCEL MAGIC)

I know I tend to disregard "inferior" versions of spell lines. When you have Nullify/Annul Magic, why even have Cancel Magic near page 1 of your book?

Cancel Magic is so useful because it only removes a -single- first-slot effect, whereas casting Pumice on yourself is only really effective as a positive dis-spell if you have tons of click-to-cast items bound to keyboard strokes. You might end up removing something important and give yourself an Achilles heel in the fight.

The majority of players on our server do not have a half dozen clickable spell items linked to movement keys.

(EFFECT STACKING)

When I log onto Red 99, my usual habit is to clean up my effects stack. Anything that I'm able to cast myself, I click off. Then I pull out every silly little utility/short duration spell in my spell book and fill the hotbar. Enduring Breath, Thorns, Invigor... I just fill as much of my buff window as possible with temporary/unimportant spells.

Then comes the real stuff. HP/AC, Movement Speed, Stat buffs, etc. When a fight begins, there's basically two ways the encounter will start: One/both opponents spams Nullify Magic until they feel the opponent is stripped or one/both go offensive right away. I've found usually a good idea to trade buffs if your opponent goes the Pumice route. At least you're BOTH stripped.

Vigilance in the next word. Don't let all that careful stacking go to waste, try to maintain a two-five slot buffer so you can removes DoT's and DeBuffs. It's a hard balancing act to maintain your manna AND be casting spells in this way. Just remember everyone else is doing this dance too.

Don't be oblivious! Keep your screen clean of excess windows and keep scanning that horizon!
