I didn't read this whole thread but I feel like people are missing the point. The server population won't go up on Red because it's too hard for new players, not because some end-game guild BS. The lack of end-game competition is a symptom of the problem. Not the problem itself.

1) No economy. Impossible to buy starter gear for your toon, which forces people to play classes they don't really want to play and probably end up quitting.

2) Getting griefed by twinks in 100k+ worth of gear when you're in rags.

3) Impossible to find groups except during peak hours. Also sometimes very difficult to find a port to where you are trying to get to for exp.

4) Toxic chatter in /ooc constantly. People who like this would rather play WoW.

I'm playing here as a new player and enjoying it despite all of this, but these are the objections given to me when I try to recruit my friends to come over from Blue or other forms of EQ.
The only reason your point #1 is true is because of the exp bonus. If we want a real server it needs real rules. Otherwise it's this action hybrid game. Half Eq & half FPS. Very little consiquence to death etc. just a quick race to end game. Also part of the reason you find level 60s that don't even know how to get to naggys lair.

I dono, I love the xp bonus but I do think it's at fault for no mid level economy or player base.
