If you are just looking to play to have fun, then really do pick the class that sounds exciting. If they all do, play them all until you settle on a main. I started recently too as the worst of the worst melee classes and have had no issue grouping. Soloing is definitely difficult (but not impossible), but I don't play to solo. If you think soloing is something you'll be doing frequency, I'd suggest probably Shaman (I think... no familiar with their soloing capability) or Druid (definitely can solo), as they both offer a lot to a group while being capable of soloing. Bards also fit into this category.

Or, make two. One that can solo really well when you don't have the time to group and one that is great in a group for when you do.

Edit: Again, it's about understanding why you are playing. If you make it to end-game and plan to raid, some classes will be in much higher demand than others. But if you are in the 1-50 range, pretty much every class can and will be used regularly. And the people that don't want you because of the class you selected are probably people you'd be okay not grouping with. I've only had one person not invite me to a group because of my class; that person also ended up getting kicked from the very same group for randomly afking and being greedy with loot.
