You mentioned in your other thread that you've played EQ before at least. The classes aren't functionally different in Classic than they are in today's Live game. The major differences will be everything is a bit tougher because gear and plat are harder to come by.
(Like my 15 Enchanter is wearing mostly Small Cloth armor still, something that's even vendor trash at level 1 on Live).
