After years of arguments and alcohal abuse to help calm the fathers raging depression a fight between himself and his wife break out over whos fault it really was, who to blame for killing thier kid. In a fit of drunk rage the father once again goes to his firearm for a solution. He shoots the former mother and turns the gun on himself.
In the paper the mother of the burglar reads of the families passing. She remembers her son, a young individual who got in with the wrong crowd. He started abusing drugs and just wanted one more fix when he died.

That guy was murdered by someone who he intended to help but turned out to be batshit crazy...And they werent carrying for self defense or protection, they were at the range that day as a therapy for a vet...Your 2 final sentences make absolutely no sense together.
