I started out on P99 in early 2013 and I made a wood elf druid. I didn't make a druid because people on the forums say its a great starting out class (which it is) it was because I loved sow and the ability to port. I was at an advantage because I had played EQ for so long before this. Even with that it took me a while to level him up and only ever got him to lvl 21 then switched to a monk that i later got to 53.

Playing a monk as your first (ish) character is not easy because of the weight penalty, but I was lucky in that I met a few people in-game that quickly became my static group and we had a main looter and money/loot was split at the end of every exp session. Point being is that you need to play with others in this game to do well.

If you find friends/a guild that you like this game not only becomes easier but it opens up just about everything and makes it WAY more fun.

Try again, this game is hard.
