It's irrelevant because what I would do/say [hypothetical] has nothing to do with what Smedley DID do/say [reality]
And you're defending him for endorsing rape.

No, I am not. I am saying that people tend to say things in anger that are not reality.
And what about the other part that you're glossing over or ignoring?
If I were to say to you: "I hope you like your new dorm roommate," would I be endorsing rape? No, but I am speaking to you in a condescending manner as you are now trapped involuntarily in a less-than-ideal situation (no privacy in a dorm room).
If I say to you: "I hope you like your new microwave," am I stating "All you're going to eat are hotpockets?" No, I am not. I am insulting you in that I believe anything that comes from a microwave is inedible, but I am not stating there is a single outcome (hotpockets).
Had the man come out and said "I hope you get raped in prison," it would be one thing. But you're reading FAR too much into this, especially considering the prison the person Smedley was talking to is in a country with a VASTLY different system of incarceration than found in the United States.
I would very much like one of our Scandinavian friends who play '99 to explain to you that the prison rape thing is not an issue in their countries*.
Rape is bad. Smedley was pissed. Smedley did not say I hope you get raped.
