Make sure you are charming low blues, less chance of a break.
I'd snare both mobs, it's basically free so why not.
At 21 I think I was charming level 13-14ish gorge hounds and griffawns in EK and using them to aggro kite Crag Spiders around (snare, spam flame lick) after pet took some hits to get low, then breaking charm finishing both the spider and pet off.
