While it sucks you had a bad time OP, a pet combo of enc/necro/mag/druid or some variation would wreck most twinks and you would get plenty of XP and spell PP without needing pickup people. Kunark has almost no epic fungi twinks.
Unfortunately if you are starting in rags, your initial class choices are very important. And to make the most of your playtime, you need to plan and strategize to avoid being constantly killed by twinks
