Honestly, I thoroughly enjoyed most of my time in GG. ~95% of the people in there were willing to help and hilarious/fun to hang out in TS.
The parts that worked:
- Unified sense of direction for the first ~4 weeks
- Experienced players that were willing to educate new players (assuming you had thick skin)
- All of the members that hadn't been on this server for 5+ years and were cool, supportive, and liked helping out others.
The parts that didn't work:
- That unification disappearing and going back to cliques after a few major losses. Primarily by people that could've helped the most (VP geared mains).
- Disconnect between full-VP characters and new players. Technically falls under 'cliques' I guess. The hilarious part was having a 'FKP' system that everyone bypassed if they were capable of doing so without recourse.
- Lack of consistency between officers. Manifested in various ways (DKP, conflicting PvP orders, no real chain of command)
- Officers acting like petulant children / verbalizing their demoralization in TS. Even if you're losing, you *have* to keep your head up. Especially as a leader. Get the fuck over your elf-sim drama - I understand that losses are frustrating, but that really influenced the mindset of a ton of your members.
- DKP system in general. Although they work, they are purely greed driven and, in the long run, are a net detriment.
With that being said, if we time-traveled and I had to do it again - I'd still have gone GG. Made a lot of friends there and the overwhelming majority of the members were well-adjusted and pretty cool. Became a better player, got taught some good lessons, had a lot of fun.
To all my former GG pals - I hold absolutely no ill will towards *anyone* in that guild. I went TMO purely because most of my friends I had played the most with in GG went there, and I want to see true competitive PvP on this server. As always, hit me up for any buffs/rezzes/heals.
